Learn about the classic art of Millinery design and
Technique with renowned Westport based Milliner Lina Stein. She will demonstrate some basic techniques and then you can let your imagination run wild
·Focus will be on creating a base and covering it following traditional Millinery techniques, and then embellishing the hat with Crinoline, beads, feathers, or just keeping things simple!

Working With Sinamay and Straws
This is the perfect course if you have always wanted to make your own couture hat for that special occasion. Using Parisisal straw and sinamay you will be guided through the process of making a brimmed hat, from blocking through to trimming. And when people as you, “Where did you get that hat?” You can answer that you made it yourself! This course includes enough sinamay and straw to make one hat with brim plus wire and petersham. Trimming is included.
During this 2 day course you will create a stunning straw hat to match your special outfit and that will definitely grab the judge’s attention!!
The basics of couture millinery-
Using Sinamay as the main material, along with fabrics such as silk and satins, crinolines and flowers.
We will discover the different techniques necessary for creating a hat, or something else altogether exotic and you will have the opportunity to
Create a trimming suitable for the occasion
day one you will, using a special milliner’s straw- Parisisal
And Sinamay
- design a basic shape of a hat
- shape straw by blocking over one of my many rare and amazing wooden blocks
- Using traditional Millinery methods taught for generations.
- Stiffen and wire the different parts of the hat

- Your hat will come together and you will trim and finish it.

On day one you will work with Millinery Straws;
-Learn about the composition and variety of Straws,
-Design a basic shape of a hat taking in all your personal measurements
-Shape the Straw over one of Lina’s many amazing wooden blocks.
-Stiffen and wire the different parts of the hat and let it settle until you take it to the next level.
On day two
-After a good nights rest, your hat will come together and you’ll trim and finish it .

FELT HAT MAKING
Prepare yourself for the long winter ahead
and get busy creating a beautiful felt hat for you to wear
·Make a warm/stylish fur- felt hat using traditional methods,that will be demonstrated by Lina
·Choose from my wide range of wooden shapes ( Blocks)
·Trim to your own style.

Workshop will focus on;
·The basic principles of milllinery
·it will comprise of working with millinery felt,
·blocking the hats over wooden blocks, stiffening
·working with steam, hand moulding the felt , etc

HAND MOULDED FUR FELT
Workshop will focus on;
·The basic principles of milllinery,
·establishing designs ,sizes,etc
· it will comprise of working with millinery felt, softly bringing the felt to shape using just your hands and a basic block.
·You will give the felt soft folds leaving it looking and feeling unstructured
·· finishing … trimming to your own desire.
Suitable for beginners, but must have sewing skills!

FELT Fascinators or COCKTAIL HATS
Have fun creating your very own Felt fascinator and learn about the classic art of Millinery design and technique with renowned Westport based Milliner Lina Stein
She will demonstrate some basic techniques like moulding and stretching and then
you can let your imagination run wild
·Focus will be on creating a base made out of Millinery Felt following traditional Millinery techniques,
·Make flowers out of felt , and then using pieces of felt ,create exciting trims for your special hat to the party .
·You can also embellish the hat with Crinoline, beads, feathers, or just keep things simple!

If none of the course dates are suitable or you have particular wishes
Do not hesitate to contact me regarding your requests
There will be a minimum of two participants in each class advertised,
I am however available for special one-to-one master classes at a negotiated rate
The dates given in the program are flexible and can be changed with reasonable notice to course participants by Lina stein.
·All materials are supplied by myself other than a few essentials ,such as thimbles scissors, needles
·Depending on numbers, the workshops will be held in my studio (Rosmoney) or alternatively in another venue.
·All courses include materials , which can also be purchased separately afterwards should you want to continue with your work
·Lunch and light refreshments will also be provided ,
·Courses run from 10am to 5 pm
·A 50 % deposit is required with bookings.
Deposits are non-refundable but your booking can be transferred with 7 days notice. If you cancel the course without giving sufficient notice (7 days), the full cost of the course will still be payable and your place is non-transferable.
· Should Accommodation be required, I can recommend you a selection of B&B’s and Hotels in the town
